To get set up, you will be using the MODULO web Admin Portal and the MODULO Gateway desktop app.
Login to the web Admin Portal and select the Plan tab. From here, set the toggle to Add Gateway Connectors*, select the number of Phone-to-Radio Gateway Connectors (same thing as gateway connectors) you need, and follow the on-screen payment instructions.
Navigate to the Users tab and select Create User. Select the Gateway Connector option and follow the on-screen instructions. The gateway connector will now appear in your Team Contact List in both the Admin Portal and your mobile app.
Select the Channels tab. Click the three horizontal dots to the right of the channel to which you want to add the gateway connector and select Manage Channel. Add the gateway connector via the Add User button. Repeat this to add the gateway connector to additional channels.
Note: The gateway connector can be added to multiple channels but can only be active on one at a time.
The desktop app is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Download it here and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the download.
In the web Admin Portal, locate the gateway connector in your Team Contact List and click the three horizontal dots to the right of the contact. Select Show Connector ID. Copy and paste this Connector ID into the Authentication section of the desktop app.
You have now connected the gateway connector to your desktop app.
You will need a RoIP gateway connector hardware device like this one. Connect your computer to the gateway connector device via the computer’s serial port. Connect the gateway connector device to your base station via your base station’s programming cable.
To add an additional gateway connector, click the + icon in the top right corner.
Set the audio input and output as the gateway connector device (otherwise audio will go from your computer’s speaker and mic).
The lights on a gateway connector device will flash when you add it as an input/output. This is helpful if you have multiple gateway connector devices connected to your computer, as it will indicate which gateway connector you’re connecting to which device.
Here you can adjust the volume settings for the gateway connector device.
Input Volume shows the volume of the audio that the computer is receiving from the gateway connector device. Voice Activation (sometimes called a VOX switch) enables you to set the volume threshold above which audio is transmitted to smartphones on the channel. Auto Voice Activation automatically sets the threshold level to 0% or 1% and should be used in most cases. Select Manual Voice Activation only if you experience static that triggers audio playback on smartphones when LMR radios are not transmitting.
Checked boxes in this section indicate that a feature is active/taking place.
This section shows all the channels to which you have added the gateway connector device (from the Admin Portal earlier). This is also where you select which channel you want the gateway connector to be active on. A gateway connector can only be active on one channel at a time.
Each gateway connector must be connected to one radio base station. Whichever channel the base station is on will be the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) channel connected to the MODULO channel you select. Some gateway connector devices can have multiple gateway connectors in one chassis. The number of inputs/outputs on the chassis will indicate the number of gateway connectors it contains.
Your gateway connector is now ready for use!
